Doc’s Place

Building Community. Pursuing Excellence. Going Beyond.

A real place to belong

Doc’s Place is being built as a true community home in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio — a warm, beautiful, useful place where neighbors gather, classes are taught, and people of every age, background, and life stage find a seat at the table.

The vision is simple. A place to drop in for a cup of coffee on a Tuesday morning. A bookshelf to browse, a board game waiting on a side table, a kids’ corner alive with crayons and laughter. A room big enough to host a Going Beyond class on Tuesday night, a monthly game night, or one of our seasonal Mario Kart tournaments. And a few quiet cottages out back for the kind of personal work that needs solitude. One property, one mission — designed from the ground up around real people doing real life together.

We’re building Doc’s Place around an old, simple truth: people thrive when they are seen, known, and welcomed back. The research bears it out. The U.S. Surgeon General has called the loss of connection one of the most urgent public health challenges of our time, and the strongest evidence for what helps points back to something humans have always known — that familiar faces, recurring small kindnesses, and a place to be a regular are what turn a community from a concept into a feeling.

Picture the moment when you walk in the door and the room lifts a little because you’re back. Someone calls your name. Someone slides over to make room at the table. The coffee’s already on, and the conversation’s already going. That’s the energy of Doc’s Place — somewhere strangers become familiar, familiar becomes friend, and nobody is treated like a project. Come for a coffee. Stay for a conversation.

The three zones

Doc’s Place is organized into three intentional zones, each shaped by a different kind of need.

The Hangout

A living room and kitchen with a warm host always present. Open hours, good coffee, no appointment, no agenda — just a place to be. This is where strangers become familiar, the regulars know your name, and a bookshelf, a board game, or a kids’ corner is always within reach.

The Multipurpose Room

The teaching and gathering space — a big, flexible room with seating for the whole community. Going Beyond classes meet here. So do small groups, community events, weddings, fundraisers, monthly game nights, the seasonal Mario Kart tournament, and venue rentals that help sustain the mission. When a chapter of someone’s life calls for company, this is the room that opens.

The Cottages

A small cluster of tiny homes out back, used for retreats and quiet space for the kind of personal work that needs solitude — for the writer, the recovering, the grieving, and anyone who needs a few unhurried days to think.

Where things stand right now

The vision is fully designed — the detailed floor plan, the operating model, the programming calendar, the legal and financial scaffolding. What remains is the right property and the funding to bring Doc’s Place to life, whether that turns out to be a fresh build or the right existing building reimagined for this purpose. Volunteers are already chattering excitedly about each of the features and are anxiously awaiting opening day.

In the meantime, the ministry is fully active. People are already building community, pursuing excellence, and going beyond — through the Going Beyond curriculum being taught right now in live virtual classes you can join from anywhere and at in-person venues around the Cuyahoga Falls area. Doc’s Place will give all of that work its forever home.

How to be part of it

There are four ways to help build Doc’s Place:

  • Join the community and begin your own path from stuck to unstoppable. Start with the Six Dimensions Snapshot, read Going Beyond a Round Tuit, or step into a class through the Going Beyond curriculum — and bring someone with you.
  • Give. Every gift — recurring, one-time, large or small — moves the building closer to ground-breaking. Doc Pratt Ministries is a 501(c)(3) (EIN 33-3061714), so your gift is tax-deductible.
  • Partner. If you represent a foundation, a congregation, a business, or a civic organization that wants to invest in something measurable and lasting, reach out to Amy.
  • Pray. This work is bigger than any one of us. Pray for wisdom, for provision, and for the people who will walk through the door.
